We have moved!
After more than thirty years at our Bathurst St centre, Sustainable Living Tasmania has moved to new premises on the corner of Harrington & Liverpool Streets (across Liverpool St from Spotlight). The street address is 2nd floor, 191 Liverpool St, and our phone number will remain the same. We are beginning to settle in to our new cozy office. Please feel free to come and visit our new space.

Join the Sustainability evolution! This years expo is set to be bigger and better than ever! With displays, talks and practical workshops covering all aspects of sustainable living. There will also be music, films, art, kids' activities, a yummy cafe and a funky planet friendly fashion parade! This is a free event. Call for Submissions - Primier's Fuel Summit
The summit will bring together more than 120 stakeholders and experts involved in the fuel price debate to generate ideas and solutions to ease the impact of increasing fuel prices on Tasmanian families and businesses. The main themes are Urban Planning, Alternative Fuels, Public Transport, Transport Efficiency, Transport Dependant Industries and Support for people most affected.
A new website has been launched to give all Tasmanians the opportunity to provide input regarding what issues and ideas they believe should be examined at the Fuel Summit. The deadline for providing comments is 9:00am on 25 August 2008.
Draft Sustainable Transport Strategy Released for Public Comment
The Draft Sustainable Transport Strategy 2008 outlines a range of issues with our current transportation system including hydrocarbon dependance and emmissions, transport economics along with health and suggests inital goals for the Council to pursue to create a more sustainable transport system. A short list of immediate projects also forms part of the strategy. Comments from interested parties close 30 September 2008.
Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme - Green Paper Released by Federal Governement
The Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme Green Paper canvasses options and preferred approaches on issues, such as which industry sectors will be covered and how emission caps will be set. It also includes ways to address the impacts on Australian households, emissions-intensive trade-exposed industries and other strongly affected sectors. Garnaut Climate Change Review Released
This report, commissioned by the federal government, examines the impacts, challenges and opportunities of climate change for Australia. A Draft Report was released on 4 July 2008, and the Final Report is due by 30 September 2008. Download the report here.
Grants open to Support Green Businesses
The Commonwealth Government has announced that Round 1 of the Climate Ready Program, part of the Clean Business Australia initiative, is open for applications.
The aim of the program is to support Australian companies in developing new products, processes and services to tackle climate change. It will provide dollar-for-dollar support for research and development, proof-of-concept and early-stage commercialisation activities.Grants may range from $50,000 to $5 million, with a range of possible applications expected in areas such as water recycling, waste recovery, renewable energy technologies, and green building materials. Applications for this round will close on Thursday 4 September 2008.

Draft Bicycle Plan for Hobart Area

The Sustainable Living Tasmania library catalogue is now online. This is a very exciting development and will make this valuable resource more accessible and easier to use.
