SEEDS of CHANGE
You are a seed of change! Growing food is a great way to combat climate change, build our communities, connect with the earth, improve health and rejuvenate ourselves. Come learn how to create and maintain community and school gardens, inspire the next generation of gardeners, network with others from around the State, and see how gardens can contribute to a better world!
When: 6 & 7 December 2008
Where: Lenah Valley Primary School & Creek Road Community Garden
What: Two days of panel discussions, hands on workshops, kids activities, films, field trips and group reflections, focussing on education and community building through gardening.
Special Guests Include:
Linda Cockburn – Author of “Living the Good Life”
Steve Solomon – Author of “Growing Vegetables South of Australia”
Sally Wise – ABC Radio presenter and author of “A Year in a Bottle”
Special Activities Include:
- Swap Table - Bring your excess garden produce, seeds and seedlings to swap with other gardeners. A great way to share your harvest and try new things!
- Kids Activities - Seed planting, potato stamp painting, cooking, mask making, bean beads, mandalas and more!
- Permablitz Design Workshop - Think 'Backyard Blitz' permi-style. Join Permaculture Hobart to do a permaculture design plan for a house in Lenah Valley. A working bee will be held in the following weeks to implement the plan.

Communities in Transition Gathering – In this bonus session, explore and share ideas for creating sustainable communities for the future. Facilitated by Margaret Steadman, Sustainable Living Tasmania.
(Gold coin donation for the public, Free for GC conference attendees)
- Garden Tour - Visit a flourishing suburban garden in South Hobart, Kingston High School Garden, Tarramah School Garden and the Taroona Community Garden. Visitors will hear about each of the gardens and learn about things such as: garden design; composting; creating garden beds; educating with gardens and maximizing urban spaces.
Cost: $70 ($35 part-time employed, $20 unemployed, $10 kids)
Includes all workshops, morning and afternoon tea, lunch and growing communities pack
