Creating Tasmania's Future

SLE 2012 - 10 & 11 November

A festival of sustainabilty held in the heart of Hobart on the waterfront.  Entertainment, answers to your questions, engaging discussions, practical solutions and lots of fun!

Don't miss out on what is one of Tasmania's largest community events! This is a free not-for-profit event with something for everyone.

Q & A Discussions – throughout the weekend

What do a romance novelist, former MP, Huon Valley farmer and UTAS student all have in common?  They participated in a series of Q & A style discussions at SLE 2011 looking at opportunities and challenges for creating a sustainable Tasmania. 

 

Sustainability Sessions – throughout the weekend

A tantalising line-up of Tassie’s finest musicians performed during our sustainability sessions.  Acts included: Andrew Marshall, Little Bear, Serenation, Edwin Morris, Jade Ulani Young, Grand Master Trash, Dominic Francis and Honeysuckle Creek.

 

Fashion Show – 9:40am Saturday 5 November

Launching the 2011 Sustainable Living Expo in style, some of Tassie’s most innovative fashion designers strutted their stuff on the festival stage runway. Bringing an eco twist to eye-catching fashion that doesn’t cost the earth!

 

Map of a Dream of the Future – throughout the weekend

Performances and artwork from year 5/6 students exploring the impact climate change will have on Tasmania and how we can adapt.  Artworks from an avant-garde after-school leadership program using arts practices to nurture resilience, innovation and optimism in relation to climate change in island places was on display at SLE 2011.

Circus Skills – throughout the weekend

Circus is a great way to interact with the world, developing co-ordination and physical strength through fun and engaging activities. Social circus trainer Christian Parr had a variety of circus equipment at the expo for everyone to have a go at, adults included!

 

Design Showcase – throughout the weekend

Some of the best contemporary Tasmanian design was featured in a unique showcase. Engaging people's imagination by the thoughtful and creative reuse of materials. Attendees were inspired by designers carefully considering the use of our precious resources to help create a beautiful and sustainable future.

 

Workshops – throughout the weekend

Preserving, why and how to oil timber, keeping bees in your backyard, energy efficiency in the home, felting, basket weaving with native plants and much much more!

 

Living Arts Space – throughout the weekend

This space had local artisans weaving, spinning, carving, felting, natural dying, and more.  Attendees were ablt to experience the creation of beautiful, useful objects for everyday life through hands-on workshops and observation.
